Auckland Curling Club's season-opening Have A Go night last Sunday 10 April was a big success says club President Al Langille.

"We had 50 new players take to the ice," he said. "And we hope to see many of them back for more in the club or school league this year."

The club will follow up with a skills and training session on Sunday 17th, and after the Easter break the club league proper will start on Sunday 1st May.

"Our ice fees can be a bit of an issue for some," he continued, "and so we don't expect them all up-front. We're happy for people to pay them in instalments through the season, and many do. Nearly 90% of our playing fees are the direct ice rental costs that we have to pass on, so unfortunately we can't make it any cheaper."

"Although the draw can't be finalised until we know how many teams we have, it works out at around $20 per game which is reasonable, and compares well with many other sports."
