Dates for Auckland Curling's Club and Secondary School league have been confirmed.

This will be an exciting year for the club with Paradice coming through on their commitment to improve the facility. Enhancements include a new Ice Plant, new cooling pipes and floor, rock cooler closer to the ice, new boards with glass all around and new air conditioning.

To improve it even more, the Auckland Curling Club has purchased and installed vinyl rings in the ice. This will improve the visual aspect of the game and increase awareness of our sport. We will find out soon if we are able to borrow a 5th set of stones, and if so we will set up an extra sheet for both club and school leagues.

Building plans for the new curling club, proposed for the Parrs Park site, were revealed at the Annual General Meeting.  Upon completion, this will be a top class curling facility which will move the sport of curling in New Zealand into a new era.

Club League

  • Sunday 10 April – The first event for our club is the ever popular Have A Go night. This is a great opportunity to get friends and family into our sport.  I would encourage each of us to bring someone new out on that evening. Events start at 5:15pm and 7:15pm. Price is only $10 and is waived for club members helping out. For those joining the club the $10 will be a credit to their curling fees.
  • Sunday 17 April – A training and skills night will be held by Lorne Depape and Hans Frauenlob, World Curling Championship and Olympic participants, and assisted by other club members. This is a great opportunity to improve or practise skills, review the strategy of curling, pick up tips on curling etiquette or just discuss the game. Further details to follow.
  • Monday 25 April – (Easter Monday / Anzac Day) All curlers, either as individuals or a team should have indicated their intention to curl in 2011. The club will facilitate the make-up of teams for individuals or part-teams who want to play. A draw starting on May 1st will be prepared and posted in the Auckland calendar on the club website. Note that there is no curling on Easter Sunday.
  • Sunday 1 May – The 2011 club league for Auckland Curling Club gets underway.

  • Thursday 5 May and 12 May – These two school-only Have A Go and coaching sessions are FREE. The session runs from 7:00 to 9:00pm.
  • Friday 13 May – Entries close for the Auckland Secondary School competition. The draw will be published on the Schools calendar page.
  • Thursday 19 May – Secondary School competition starts.

Later in the season there will be opportunities to compete in the North Island Curling championships being held during Winter Tournament week and the NZ Secondary School championships being held in the October Holidays.
