Ideal conditions for Wilson Cup on Idaburn Dam PDF Print E-mail

There was praise for the weather and the ice conditions yesterday when the one-day Wilson Cup bonspiel was held near Oturehua. Defending champions Alexandra joined the other 15 clubs of the Idaburn Curling Council in a memorable day on the frozen Idaburn Dam.

It was the Poolburn Curling Club that triumphed with 87 points ahead of Blackstone Hill, runners-up with 84, and Cambrian third on 68.

Hopes are high that the good conditions will persist and allow a National Bonspiel to be called next week.

There was extensive national and local media coverage of this event:

Written by Lynda Van Kempen – Otago Daily Times

Monday 13 July 2009 – Central Otago curlers will barely have thawed out from the last bonspiel before heading to this week's one – on the Idaburn Dam.
