Included in this newsletter are recommendations from the recent High Performance Committee meeting and contact details of the newly confirmed Executive Committee after the Annual General Meeting. The NZCA also seeks applications for a third selector for both the Open and Seniors teams, and for coaches of the various national teams. Executive Contact DetailsThe NZCA Executive confirmed at the AGM is as follows:
SelectorsIn order to allow some continuity of approach to team selection, the Executive last year agreed to a four year term for all its selectors; it is possible that selectors may retire during the course of the four year appointment but it is to be hoped that there will not be a major “changing of the guard” at any date, thereby losing a lot of experience and expertise in the one year. The current NZ Selectors (2010-2013 inclusive) are:
The Executive is inviting applications from interested curlers for the positions of third Selector for the Open and Seniors teams. Expressions of interest and details of general curling experience and of selection experience should be forwarded to the NZCA Secretary (new contact details below) for receipt by Wednesday 15 June 2011. NZ CoachesThe Executive is inviting expressions of interest from interested personnel for the role of Coach for each of its national representative teams – NZ Juniors, NZ Open, NZ Youth Winter Olympics, NZ Seniors. Expressions of interest and details of general curling experience and of coaching experience should be forwarded to the NZCA Secretary (new contact details below) for receipt by Wednesday 15 June 2011. NZCA 125th Jubilee – 2011The Jubilee has been set down for Thursday 23 and Friday 24 June 2011 – details of the actual draw and associated entry fee will be issued in the foreseeable future. It is intended that teams will play at different venues on each of the days but there should be sufficient time for teams to travel to Ranfurly after close of play on the Friday so that players can participate in the Jubilee Dinner, the cost of which will be separate to the entry fee. NZCA TournamentsA reminder to all proposed participants in the forthcoming NZ tournaments –
Entries for the NZ Mixed Fours have closed but any inquiries should be direct to the Auckland Curling club at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Entries for the NZ Juniors will be invited by the Maniototo Curling International Inc which is hosting the event at its indoor rink in Naseby on 25-26 June 2011; entries for the NZ Championship Fours will be invited by the Dunedin Curling Club which is hosting the event at the Dunedin Ice Stadium on 1-2-3 July 2011. NZCA SubscriptionsThe 2011 Annual General Meeting set the 2012 subscriptions payable by Clubs at $20 per capita which is an increase of $5 per capita over the subscription applying for the current financial year. All Clubs are requested to ensure that their 2011 subscription (based on $15 per capita) is paid as soon as possible. Invoices were issued prior to the NZCA’s 2011 AGM. High Performance CommitteeThe Committee has recently addressed a number of issues affecting curling in New Zealand – attached is a summary of some of its deliberations and recommendations. It is pointed out that the Executive has only dealt with the first series of recommendations relating to additional New Zealand teams for the 2011 NZ Winter Games. If members have any comments on and/or concerns about what is being promoted for discussion by the High Performance Committee, then such comments should be forwarded in writing to the NZCA Secretary for consideration by the Executive when it addresses the balance of the issues raised by the High Performance Committee.
