Birkenhead College, Henderson High School and Long Bay College are the Auckland Secondary Schools Curling champions for 2010. They received the trophies for the Boys, Girls and Mixed teams respectively after the Finals night at Paradice earlier this month. The first act of the Finals night was a draw to the button to find one of the Girls' finalists. Henderson High Taylor and Epsom Girls Smirnova had finished their section level on points and had drawn their pool game earlier in the year, but it was Brittany Taylor's draw for Henderson that broke the tie and put her team in the final against Epsom Girls Kwon, skipped by Tessa Farley.Henderson kept up the momentum, doing all of the scoring in the first half of the game, and they ran out comfortable 8-2 winners. Eleanor Adviento's Birkenhead team were not eligible for the Mixed title as they had not consistently fielded a 2 boys / 2 girls team through the season, so they played in the Boys' final against Green Bay High School. This was a tight match throughout, and it was certainly not apparent that 7 of the 8 players were first-year curlers. In a last-rock decider, Green Bay needed 2 on the last to tie the game but scored just the single and so had to be content with the runner-up spot. Katie Bauer's Long Bay Mixed side had already won the Mixed title by virtue of a higher finish in their section than the other Mixed team. They played EGGS Smirnova in a friendly, with Epsom scoring 4 on the last end to win 8-3.
