2010 Annual General Meeting

The NZCA’s AGM has been set for Friday 7 May 2010, to be held at the Oturehua Hall, commencing at 8pm. During March 2010, the NZCA Secretary is to issue the formal notice of the AGM, along with a request for any Notices of Motion, and request for nominations for the offices of

  • President (from Dunstan Creek)
  • Vice-Presidents (from Ranfurly and Manorburn)
  • Two members of the Executive. Pat Cooney and Sam Inder are due to retire by rotation but are eligible for re-election.

Amendment of NZCA Rules

The Executive is to propose amendments to the NZCA’s Rules (a.k.a. constitution) to make provision for “Associate Members” – at the present time, the membership of the NZCA is limited to “Affiliated Members” (curling clubs) and “Life Members”.

The primary purpose of the proposed amendment is to allow the likes of the Maniototo Curling International Inc (which operates the indoor ice rink at Naseby) to apply for membership of the NZCA – further details of this proposal will be issued with the AGM agenda but the proposal will not have any impact on the rights and entitlements of affiliated members (curling clubs) but rather, if it is agreed to, the proposal would allow the likes of the MCI to state on grant applications that it is affiliated to a national organisation.

NZCA 125th Jubilee

The NZCA is due to mark its 125th Jubilee in 2011 – just how that milestone should be acknowledged has yet to be decided on but the Executive would like to receive input from curlers as to a suitable format – please contact any member of the Executive to pass on your suggestions. Time is slipping by quite quickly so please do not leave it too late to submit your suggestions.

The Roaring Game

A reminder to all curlers and Curling Clubs that there are still copies of the book written by Bro Wilson Mawhinney – the book provides a very good history of the sport of curling in New Zealand.

The book has a retail price of $20 and should be seen as “a must” in every curler’s home and in every Club’s library.

Copies can be purchased from the NZCA – Sam Inder is presently holding the stock of books but please contact any member of the NZCA Executive to obtain a copy of this excellent edition.
