Tournament Format

  • A Mixed Fours team must comprise 2 males and 2 females playing alternately (i.e. M-F-M-F or F-M-F-M). Teams must maintain one of these two playing configurations at all times. You may change from one configuration to the other and/or change playing order between games.
  • Eight teams will play in two pools of four, and each pool will play a full round robin. Therefore every team will play three pool games, each of six (6) ends. If scores are level after six ends then an extra end(s) will be played to find a winner.
  • The first and second ranked teams in each pool will play crossover semi-finals (A1 v B2, B1 v A2), followed by a final and a 3rd/4th playoff. These will be eight (8) end games.
  • The third and fourth ranked team in each pool will play a similar format for places 5th - 8th. These will be six (6) end games.
  • Before each pool game teams will toss a coin. The winner of the toss may elect to take first or last practice, or may select stone colour to use for the practice session. Teams will use the same stone colour in both the practice session and the ensuing game.
  • Each team practice will be five (5) minutes, followed by a single-player draw to the button. Teams may sweep their own stone, but not their opposition's. The draw shot distance (DSD) will be measured and (for pool games) recorded. Any stone outside the house, (or not officially measured in pool games) will be recorded as 185 cm.
  • The team with the lowest pre-game DSD will have hammer in the first end. If both teams record the same DSD then teams will toss a coin for hammer.
  • At the conclusion of the three pool rounds, each team will discard their worst draw and average the others. This value is the team's "average DSD".
  • Pool rankings will be determined by (a) number of wins if possible, else (b) head-to-head results if possible, else (c) best average DSD after worst result discarded.
