30 Oct 2017 – Auckland Curling Club celebrated its coming of age in style over Labour Weekend, with a 21st Jubilee dinner on Saturday night, and then a bonspiel on Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Old friendhips were rekindled amongst the 40 guests who enjoyed Saturday evening's dinner at the Remuera Club. A slideshow of photos from 1996 to the present day entertained all, and sparked much comment on the change of colour (and quantity) of some of the hairstyles on display.

A 'pub quiz' by orgainser and MC Earl Irving tested knowledge of curling, memories were sparked by Life Member Lorne DePape, and Club President acknowledged all who contributed to a fine evening, notably Earl.

A full sheet of 10 teams played in the 21st Jubilee bonspiel. After a random draw in the first 6-end round, the Schenkel system was used to find the draw for subsequent rounds.

This ensured that teams with a similar result record played each other through the second and thrid rounds on Saturday evening and the fourth on Monday morning. A break for breakfast followed before the draw for the final round was determined.

Stonehenge and Team Kenny Williamson qualified for the final, both teams having 3 wins and a draw to their name. The draw was a 5-5 result between the two teams in the opening round.

Stonehenge (Garion Long, Ben Frew, Kieran Grieve and Keith Bond) ran Kenny Williamson, Ian Ford and Allan Barclay out of stones in the final end to take the DePape-Frauenlob tTrophy 4-2. John Allen celebrated his 21st year of curling to take third place with his Diamonds team.
