Curling in the heart of Auckland

Curling in Aotea Square

25 Jun 2013 – The roar of curling stones on ice will be heard next to the Auckland Town Hall on Sunday morning.

Curlers will christen the temporary Paradice ice rink in Aotea Square for an hour from 9:00am, when Auckland Curling Club demonstrate their sport and invite anyone keen to give it a go.

"The Winter Olympic sport of Curling has been played in New Zealand for over 120 years," says Auckland Curling President Ian Ford, "and curlers here have played at Paradice Avondale since 1996, so we're delighted to join with Paradice to bring it into the centre of the city where anyone can see it and try. Curling is a sport for all ages."

"We'll be curling from 9am until 10am this Sunday (30th), and invite everyone along to see what the sport is all about - and to give a go themselves if they like. Club members will be on hand to get you started and answer any questions."
