MCI December camp popular

December camp

18 Dec 2012 – Thirty participants attended the NZCA Training Camp at MCI Naseby from 14 - 16 December, and all showed marked improvement in their curling by the conclusion of their weekend reported co-ordinator Peter Becker.

24 of the athletes were juniors, with one of those from Australia.

Over the weekend the participants were taken through delivery sessions, video analysis, curling drills and strategy sessions. They also viewed and analysed DVDs of World Championships and other game situations.

MCI Open Doubles 2012

A small but select field contested Maniototo Curling International's season-opening tournament last weekend.

Rink manager Ewan Kirk said the six Open Doubles teams were mainly composed of former or current national representatives from both sides of the Tasman.

New Zealand's first Skins Tournament

20 Oct 2011 – New Zealand's first "Skins" curling cash spiel was held at the Maniototo Curling International indoor rink in Naseby on the weekend of the 15-16 October. The event was part of the Real NZ Festival held in conjunction with the Rugby World Cup.

In a "skins" tournament a cash prize is up for grabs during each end of a game, and each skin will jackpot if not won.

MCI Doubles to Beckers

21 Mar 2011 – New Zealand Curling's 125th Jubilee season got under way in Naseby over the weekend with the MCI Open Doubles championship.

It was Sean and Bridget Becker – with a valuable "assist" from NZ Under-21 rep Thivya Jeyaranjan – who started the year with an impressive win.

Trans-Tasman Trophy stays in NZ - just

17 Jun 2009 – No Australian team has won the Ernslaw One Trans-Tasman Trophy in the five years it has been contested – but thay have never come closer than they did last weekend in Naseby.

Peter Becker's Central Otago four triumphed in the final by the narrowest of margins, beating Dave Imlah's Quensland side 7-6.
