30 Jun 2021 – Last week saw the last match in the first section of the Bowlers League indoor crampit competition at MCI, along with the final round of the Contractors Cup Hack Indoor competition.
On the adjoining outdoor Maniototo Ice Rink the first round of the Hore Cup was held, followed on Sunday by the Brown Trophy – traditionally the first match of the season for the four Naseby clubs.
The Dowse Trophy knockout competition has been put back a week, and will now start on Thursday 8 July at 7.00 pm.

The Maniototo Outdoor Rink was built on what was Andy Brown's Dam, and the Brown Family donated this cup for the Naseby-based clubs.
The Brown ran out to a nail-biting finish with Sister Stacey Herd playing one of those incredible shots that are only seen in the old outdoor game, which gave the Naesby Team a one-shot win over Kiwi and resulted in all teams ending up with a win and a loss.
So it came down to a countback on points, with Mt Ida taking out the honours. It was a classic case for Mt Ida A of “Having lost a Battle but won the War”, thanks to a convincing win by the Mt Ida B team.

The first two Matches of the Hore Trophy were played on the evening of Monday 22 June on good ice, with Kyeburn, Ranfurly and Whitestone all winning both of their matches.
Unfortunately, the weather put paid to the second scheduled night on the 29th.
Contractors Cup (Indoor) Crampit Competition.
The finals of the CC Indoor CC were played off with Rough Ridge again taking out the honours and Alexandra finishing as runners-up. Manorburn defeated Lowburn play-off for 3rd and 4th, and Mt Ida defeated Naseby for the Plate. ( 5th & 6th).
Discussions are underway to start this competition earlier next year to give more traditional curlers the opportunity to enter and get their eye in for when the Outdoor Rink is ready to start.
Dowse Cup
Jack Dowse was the local Otago Farmers Co-op Agent here in the 1960’s and a staunch member of the Mt Ida Club. His family donated this trophy in his memory.
The Dowse is a knockout competition with the draw arranged by the Mt Ida Club, and the opening night has been put back a week to Monday 8 July.
New Alexandra Indoor Rink
The Alexandra Indoor Rink will be starting a Traditional (Crampit) Curling Competition early in July.
Both the Alexandra and Manorburn Clubs have been great supporters of the Contractors Cup Competition at MCI over the years and it would be good to return the compliment and have some teams support that event. If you are interested in making up a team, please register your interest with the Rink.
