NZCA Newsletter 2010 / 11

Merry Christmas

21 Dec 2010 – The NZ Curling Association wishes all curlers compliments of the festive season.

Then just a week after New Year's Day the stakes will be high in the Pacific Junior Curling Championships at Naseby, where places at the 2011 World Junior Curling Championships and the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics will be decided.

Seasons Greetings

The Executive wishes to extend its best wishes to all Curling Clubs and to all curlers for a very happy, relaxing, and enjoyable Festive Season – may your Christmas be peace-filled and may you have a happy and prosperous New Year. We look forward to meeting on the ice again sometime in 2011.

Pacific Junior Curling Championships

The 2011 tournament (involving men's and women's teams from Australia, China, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand) is set down to be held in Naseby during the period of 9-15 January 2011. This tournament will provide a great opportunity to watch top curlers under the age of 21 years competing at the Naseby indoor rink.

"Round robin" games start at 10am and 4pm each day from Monday 10 January 2011 (9am on Friday 14 January).

Any Curling Club members who may be able to assist at the Naseby rink are requested to contact Mervyn Jamieson at 03 444 9919 or to contact the This email address is being protected from spambots. The winning Men's team and the winning Women's team earns the right to participate in the World Junior Curling Championships later in 2011 whilst the "winner" between New Zealand and Australia earns the right for the winner's country to participate as Oceania's representatives in the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics at Innsbruck. Whilst members of the NZ Junior teams will not be eligible to participate in the Winter Youth Olympics (on account of age), should NZ defeat Australia, then four young NZ curlers will head off to the Winter Youth Olympics – for the future of curling in New Zealand, let's hope that the successful chant is "GO KIWI" rather than "Ossie Ossie Ossie oi oi oi"!
