Pacific Junior Curling Championships
The Championships were held at Naseby on 9-15 January 2011 and involved Men's and Women's teams from Australia, China, Japan, Korea, and New Zealand. Final results were:
- New Zealand (Sam Miller, Michael Smith, Willie Miller, Liam Dowling, Tim McMillan)
- New Zealand (Chelsea Farley, Thivya Jeyaranjan, Tessa Farley, Emily Whelan, Katie Bauer)
Congratulations are extended to both New Zealand teams for their efforts at the 2011 Championships and it was pleasing to note the success of the Women's team in achieving third place. The winning team in each section (China men, Japan women) has now qualified to participate in the 2011 World Junior Curling Championships.
Thanks are extended to all those who assisted in the running of the Championships, from the players and their families, coaches, umpires, on-ice officials (hog-line, recorders), time-keepers, Ice maker and support crew, other volunteers, Maniototo Curling International staff and Board members, and NZCA personnel, all of whom gave their time to make the event a success.
As a consequence of the New Zealand teams defeating Australia, New Zealand has earned the right to be represented at the 2012 Youth Winter Olympics which are to be held at Innsbruck, Austria in January 2012. Final details as to participation at the Youth Olympics are presently being addressed by the New Zealand Olympic Committee.
The NZCA is to celebrate its 125th Jubilee on 23 & 24 June 2011 – bookings have tentatively been made at four ice rinks (Alexandra, Dunedin, Gore, Naseby) so that a "bonspiel" can be held to mark the jubilee. It is intended to hold the official Jubilee dinner in Ranfurly on the evening of Friday 24 June 2011.
Input is sought from the curling fraternity as to a suitable competition format for the Jubilee "bonspiel". Any suitable ideas should be forwarded to the NZCA Secretary as soon as convenient.
- Dunedin Crampit Bonspiel – 12-13 February 2011. Cancelled due to low entries
The official website of the NZCA is hosted by the Auckland Curling Club but the site contains useful information relating to the NZCA and to the Idaburn and Naseby Curling Councils.

The Roaring Game
A reminder to all curlers and Curling Clubs that there are still copies of this book written by Bro Wilson Mawhinney – the book provides a very good history of the sport of curling in New Zealand.
The book has a retail price of $20 and should be seen as "a must" in every curler's home and in every Club's library.
Please note that the NZCA Secretary's email address has now been changed to the following:
