1 Apr 2009 – In March this year Sean Becker and I had the privilege to represent New Zealand in the inaugural World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships Vierumaki, Finland.

Mixed Doubles features two teammates delivering five stones alternating with their opponents. The player throwing the first stone also throws the last, with the teammate delivering the three middle stones. Two additional stones are placed into play at the start of each end and the placement will determine who has last rock.

2008 World Senior Women’s Tournament The team first flew to England where friends of Christine's put us up just minutes from Fenton's rink in Kent where we got good keen ice and fine tips from Alistair Martin before heading to the competition in Vierumaki. Once in Vierumaki we settled into our very nice accommodation and enjoyed the competition. Although we never managed to win a game this year there were a number of positives – in the pre competition Draw shot challenge we beat England.

2008 World Senior Men's Tournament  Team members, Peter Becker (Skip), Richard Morgan (3rd), Murray Petherick (2nd), John Sanders (lead) & Nelson Ede (5th), travelled separately, & different routes, to Helsinki in early March to take part in the Senior World Curling Championships, which were held this year, along with the Mixed Doubles World Curling Championships, at Finland's "Academy of Sport" in Vierumaki.

Both the men and women from China have qualified for the 2008 World Championships.

The men did it by winning two straight games in their best-of-three semi-finals against Japan (Japan played both games without their Skip due to illness). That advances them to the Gold medal game and gets them one of the two places that are reserved for the Pacific region in the Worlds.

2007 NZ Mixed Doubles champions
The Championship trophy was presented to Sean and Bridget Becker by NZCA president Robert Rutherford

29 Oct 2007 – NZ Men's skip Sean Becker and his sister Bridget, the NZ Women's skip, took out the 2007 NZ Mixed Doubles title after beating fellow NZ representatives Scott Becker and Brydie Donald 8-6 in the final at Naseby's Maniototo International Curling rink.

The final was a closely fought affair, with the scores tied at 6-6 with two ends to play, before the Becker duo broke away to take the title.

In the semi-finals Sean and Bridget Becker beat Murray and Kylie Pethrick 10-4, while Scott Becker and Brydie Donald had a 9-1 win over Matt Weir and Lucy Harris.

The New Zealand Curling Association has just completed a 3 day training camp for all prospective NZ curlers at the Naseby indoor curling rink. They were fortunate enough to arrange for 2 top curling coaches in Sharon Delver and Kevin Roucke who arrived from Canada for this camp. Following the camp our NZ men’s and women’s curling teams who will represent us at the Pacific Curling Championships, (19th – 26th Nov 2007, Beijing, China), were selected.
