8 Apr 2020 - Over the last six months, the NZCA Exec has undertaken a full review of our selection policies and processes. The updated document can be found on our website here.

It has been decided to form a Selection Committee that will oversee both the processes for selection and ultimately the selection decisions themselves.

As updated on 16 July, the make-up of the committee is:

  • Chair of Selection Committee – This role will be held by a member of the NZCA Executive, and Richard Morgan was appointed on 16 July.
  • National Coach – Peter de Boer.
  • Selectors – At least two (2) people who self-nominate from the curling community. Selectors for 2020-21 are:
NZ U21 teams: Peter de Boer, Nelson Ede, Dave Watt, Mhairi-Bronté Duncan
NZ Open Fours: Peter de Boer (Women only), Nelson Ede, Dave Watt
  • Scouts – Where possible, scouts will be appointed in each region to provide ongoing feedback into the selection committee. Scouts would have regular access to watching athletes train and play in Auckland, Dunedin and Naseby. Scouts appointed for 2020-21 are Peter Becker, Bridget Becker, Anton Hood, Ben Smith and Benjamin Frew.

The Selection Committee (Chair, Selectors and National Coach Peter de Boer) are encouraged to work with the Scouts to gather information on athletes being considered for selection in disciplines where the Scout has no obvious conflict of interest. The NZCA remains open to receive interest from people wishing to act as Scouts, particularly in Auckland and Dunedin.
