1 Nov 2022 – 2021 marked 30 years since New Zealand teams first competed at a World Curling Federation tournament, so a reunion of all former and current NZ representatives and officials was planned for November of that year. However, that became one of many events affected by the Covid pandemic.
The event was postponed and took place a year later over Labour Weekend of October 2022. Not all who registered for the original event could attend, including the current Men's team who were en route to Canada to prepare for the first Pan Continental Championship. But over 70 current and former players and officials attended.
A "Meet and Greet" was held Friday evening at the Maniototo Curling International rink. Saturday morning saw a Points Match played, giving those who wished an opportunity to throw a stone competitively. Lorne DePape won the Men's event with 52 points, and Mhairi-Bronte Duncan topped the Women's with 35.
A dinner was held at the Ranfurly Stadium on Saturday evening, with some excellent speeches being made.
Tam O'Shanters were presented to all NZ rep players who requested one, each embroidered with the recipient's individual NZ representative number. The pom-pom colour denoted the team they were selected for – black for NZ Open teams, white for Juniors, and the Seniors received a grey pom-pom (or 'dark silver' as some called it!). The excellent efforts of John and Mary-Liz Sanders in arranging the tammies were appreciated.
Three booklets had been prepared and were on sale showing all the NZ teams and their results since 1991. An excellent and enjoyable weekend was reported, thoroughly enjoyed by all those who attended.
