Secondary School Curling 

The NZSSCC is a School Sport New Zealand (SSNZ) sanctioned event. All teams and participants must meet the SSNZ Eligibility Requirements applicable to this event.

Schools experiencing difficulty meeting the eligibility requirements or forming a team for the NZSSCC may apply directly to SSNZ for an exemption. This may include, but is not limited to, the following circumstances:

1. Two or more schools wishing to combine to form a Composite Team.
2. Inclusion of Year 7/8 students to enable a school to field a team.
3. Other eligibility-related circumstances that may require SSNZ consideration.

Schools are encouraged to contact their Regional Curling Co-ordinator for advice and support if they are experiencing difficulty forming a team.  They will be able to help guide you through the eligibility requirements and offer some scenarios before applying to SSNZ.  

Applications for exemptions must be submitted directly to SSNZ no later than 5.00pm, Friday 24 July 2026.

Alexandra, Auckland, and Dunedin run local school leagues, development programmes, and “Have a Go” sessions. Please see below for further details.

Maniototo Secondary School students participate in the Maniototo Adventure Park Contractors Cup in Naseby as part of a weekly league competition.

The New Zealand Curling Association (NZCA) hosts Training Camps as part of its Development Programme.

A two-day Training Camp is held in Naseby during the July school holidays for beginner and intermediate curlers, as well as those interested in playing for New Zealand Junior Representative teams.

A further two-day compulsory Training Camp is held in September for selected New Zealand Junior Representative teams.

A Travel Subsidy is available for people who live outside Central Otago to attend NZCA Training Camps.    You can only apply for the Travel Subsidy after full attendance at the Training Camp. Travel subsidies are as below;

• Dunedin - $50
• South Island - $100
• North Island - $200

Please allow at least a month for your application to be processed. Please ensure you email the NZCA Admin Officer after submitting your application to ensure it is received by the Executive. 

All applications will be presented to the NZCA Executive and they will review them at their monthly meeting.

NZCA endeavours to keep the travel subsidy in place however, the NZCA Travel Subsidy Fund is subject to successful funding applications by the NZCA.
