30 Sep 2023 – Dunedin's John McGlashan College and Trinity College are the NZ Secondary School curling champion teams for 2023.
The five Girls' teams played a round-robin, with the top four progressing to semi-finals. Trinity College won all four of their matches, and Maniototo qualified with a 3-1 win-loss record.
Bayfield High, Epsom Girls Grammar and Columba College all finished with 1-3 records, including a win and a loss against the other two tied teams. The pre-game draw shot distances were therefore needed to decide the remaining two semi-final spots, and Columba College were the unlucky side to miss out.
Top qualifiers Trinity and Maniototo won their respective semis to set up a rematch of the South Island Schools final just two weeks earlier. The Trinity College side had also gone into that game as top qualifier but were upset by Maniototo.
History did not repeat this time though, and Trinity College dominated the gold medal game to win 11-1.
Bayfield's Heavy Sweepers led throughout the bronze medal game against Epsom Girls Grammar and took the match 8-4.
Long Bay College's Mixed team joined the three Boys' sides in their double round robin, the top two Boys' teams qualifying for their final. This proved to be a tight competition and resulted in all three tied on points, with a win and a loss each against the other two. Again, Draw Shots were needed to break the tie, and it was the Maniototo and John McGlashan who made the cut.
John McGlashan College led 4-0 after three ends and didn't look back, going on to claim the final 8-4.
