World Seniors in Fredericton

 Seniors

5 May 2025 – The Kiwis at the recent World Senior Championships in Fredericton, Canada didn't let their relative lack of success on the ice get in the way of an enjoyable week.

The Senior Women's side of Jo Olszewski, Sandra Thomas, Liz Matthews, Merran Anderson and Juliet Charko didn't manage a win but had their moments, and enjoyed the company of their fellow competitors and everything that the host city had to offer.

The Men's team of Dave Watt, Iain Craig, Lorne DePape, Dean Fotti and Tom Telfer rounded off the tournament with a last-round win. They also relished the experience of catching up with old friends, and making plenty of new ones.

Both sides also acted as the cheer squad for Jess Smith and brother Ben, who had a fabulous run in the World Mixed Doubles Championship held at the same venue. The Smiths finished 9th overall and emphatically requalified NZ for the 2026 event.
