
7 May 2025 - Ellie McKenzie and Darcy Nevill improved throughout their tournament at the inaugural World Junior Mixed Doubles Championship in Edmonton, Canada. They reaped the reward in their final game, an 8-7 win over Czechia.
They Kiwi duo had strong periods in many of their first 5 games but maintained it consistently in the last, sealing their sole win with their last stone of the tournament.
They finished their group level with Czechia and Hong Kong, all on a 1 win - 5 loss record in places 5th to 7th. The Draw Shot Challenge determined a final placing of 6th in the pool for the Kiwis and 21st overall.
They earned their place in Edmonton when they won the first NZ Junior Mixed Doubles title last August.
29 teams are competing in four pools, and the top two from each pool will qualify for the quarterfinal stage. The medal games will be this Sunday, Edmonton time.
