Poolburn win Nicolson Trophy

 Combined Councils

22 Jun 2025 - The annual Outdoor Curling match between the two Curling Councils, Naseby and Idaburn, was contested in Alexandra last Wednesday, 18th June. New Zealand Curling comprises 37 clubs, which are divided between these two councils.

The highly anticipated Nicolson Trophy is contested between two clubs from each council. Last season, Poolburn and Lowburn qualified as the top two teams from the Idaburn Council's Macrae Trophy.

Ranfurly emerged as the winner of the Naseby Council's Baxter Cup, with Naseby club following as the runner-up. However Naseby was unable to field a team, with Kiwi taking their place to represent the Naseby Council.

Each club enters two teams of four players, and they compete in two 21-end matches. Idaburn Council's Poolburn CC emerged as the top team of the day, with Ranfurly runners-up and Kiwi third.

All teams celebrated a brilliant day that captured the true spirit of the game, showcasing camaraderie both on and off the ice.
