Teams Petersen, Nevill claim Junior titles

9 Aug 2025 – The 2025 New Zealand Junior Championships in Dunedin last weekend saw the eventual champion Men's and Women's teams dominate throughout.

The six Women's teams played an initial round robin, with the top four qualifying for the semi-finals. Team Tahlia Petersen, with Tylah James, Tahlia Jones and Jess Becker, came out firing from the get-go. They established an early lead in all pool games to claim a perfect 5-0 record.

Teams Isobel Day, defending champions Olivia Russell, and Christina Xu all finished with 3-2 records to secure the other semi-final places. The draw shot challenge was needed to rank the teams and determine the semi-final match-ups.

Petersen and Russell both won their respective semi-finals in six ends to earn a place in the gold medal match, won 10-3 by Team Petersen. Team Xu won the all-Auckland bronze medal game 6-5.

With only four Men's teams entered, a double round-robin was played. Jed Nevill, Jack Steele, Jock McMillan and Jake McMillan were strong throughout, winning all six of their matches relatively comfortably. That earned them the gold medal directly under the tournament rules.

In the playoff for silver, Team Jack Millar reversed their earlier results against Abraham Chanwong, claiming the win 6-5.
