Winter is coming

Yes, winter IS coming! And if you've ever thought "Curling ... wouldn't mind trying that one day", then that day is almost here.

Auckland Curling invites you to come along to Paradice Avondale on Sunday 2nd and/or 9th May, and give it a go.

Come and find out all about sliding, sweeping, and yelling at granite. We'll give you an introduction to curling, some coaching, and get you started in your first game.

We supply everything you need to play the game. You just need to wear warm gear that you can stretch out in, a pair of gloves, and clean, flat-soled shoes.

31 Mar 2021 – A curling season unaffected by Covid-19 was at the top of the wish list for Auckland Club president Brett Sargon at the club's recent AGM.

He confirmed the club's season start dates for 2021:

  • Sunday 2 & 9 May – "Have a Go" nights for aspiring and curious curlers
  • Sunday 16 May – Probable opening night of the club league, although this could be moved to the 23rd if an extra session was needed for training of new curlers on the 16th.

The Auckland Secondary School League reverts to its usual Thursday evenings during Terms 2 and 3. The opening Have a Go sessions for schools will be on 6 and 13 May, with no charge for participants.

18 Feb 2020 – Auckland Curling's AGM will be held at Auckland Joggers Club in Puriri Drive, Cornwall Park on Sunday 15 March.

At the AGM we'll have a presentation on the just-completed Feasibility Study into a multi-pad Ice Sports complex for Auckland – to include a dedicated curling rink.

And the season-opening dates in May have been confirmed.

17 Oct 2019 – Stonehenge backed up their 2018 success when they won the Auckland Curling League final against top qualifiers My Name is Curl last weekend.

Both teams were playing without their regular thirds, as Benjamin Frew (Stonehenge) and Kieran Ford were on international duty for NZ at the World Mixed Championship in Aberdeen.

After the Stonehenge trio of Garion Long, Kieran Grieve and Rebecca Treacy conceded a single in the first end, they got their noses in front with a double in the second and followed that up with a steal in the next.

10 Oct 2019 – Garion and Rebecca Long won a short and sharp 2019 Auckland Mixed Doubles Championship at Paradice Avondale last Sunday.

With the reality of ice hire costs making a traditional round-robin format unviable, the 8 teams competing started the evening with a random draw to find their opponents for the three preliminary four-end games.

After the preliminary rounds the Longs had a perfect 3-from-3 record, as did Sasha Goloborodko and Nikita Derevianko, so it was these sides who met in the final.

17 Oct 2018 – The Stonehenge team of Garion Long, Benjamin Frew, Kieran Grieve and Rebecca Treacy are the 2018 Auckland Curling champions after a 9-2 win over last year's winners, Cleansweep, in last Sunday's Premier League final.

The side also won the Auckland's Round Robin trophy and the Big End award.

In the semi-finals a week earlier, Chelsea Farley's Cleansweep had beaten Iain Craig's Rockers, while Stonehenge headed off the fast-improving Penguins skipped by Sasha Golborodko.

26 Jan 2018 – Auckland Curling's first newsletter for the year confirms that the Club's 2018 AGM will be held at the Cornwall Park Sports Association club on Sunday 25 February at 11:00 am. Members will also hear details of exciting prospects for a dedicated curling ring in the city.

A barbecue lunch will follow, and the Women's Olympic Gold medal match will be screened live.

The 2018 season will start with four Post-Olympic "come and try curling" sessions on Sundays 4, 11, 18 and 25 March.

30 Oct 2017 – Auckland Curling Club celebrated its coming of age in style over Labour Weekend, with a 21st Jubilee dinner on Saturday night, and then a bonspiel on Sunday evening and Monday morning.

Old friendhips were rekindled amongst the 40 guests who enjoyed Saturday evening's dinner at the Remuera Club. A slideshow of photos from 1996 to the present day entertained all, and sparked much comment on the change of colour (and quantity) of some of the hairstyles on display.
