17 Jun 2009 – No Australian team has won the Ernslaw One Trans-Tasman Trophy in the five years it has been contested – but thay have never come closer than they did last weekend in Naseby.
Peter Becker's Central Otago four triumphed in the final by the narrowest of margins, beating Dave Imlah's Quensland side 7-6.
These two teams earned their place in the final by finishing top of the table after a full round-robin series amongst the six competing teams. The Kiwis were undefeated, while the Queenslanders lost just the one game.
In the playoff for third and fourth Bridget Becker's Bruisers upset the NZ Presidents team of Darren Carson. There was a loud cheer for the other Queensland side, the inexperienced Stonecutters, when they won their only game of the weekend against a very useful Dobbies Mob in the playoff to avoid the wooden spoon.
