Junior camp at Naseby a success

2013 MCI camp

17 Jul 2013 – The July Junior camp at Naseby's MCI rink was deemed both enjoyable and successful by both the coaches and athletes involved. Over 30 junior curlers attended, thanks to a late influx of applications from Dunedin.

Skills and ages ranged from a couple of very enthusiastic 10 year olds (whose understanding belied their years) to more seasoned Under-21 international players.

The 2013 Annual General Meeting of the New Zealand Curling Association Inc will be held at the Oturehua Hall, Oturehua, on Friday 10 May 2013 from 8.00pm.

World tour for Gone Curling

5 Dec 2012 – Rachael Patching and Roland Kahurangi, producers of the acclaimed New Zealand short film Gone Curling, are keen to thank their supporters and update all on their film's successes.

"We wanted to touch base and let you know what is happening with our film Gone Curling and with what has been a very successful and worthwhile Pledgeme fundraising campaign for a great New Zealand short film."

IOC Award to Liz Matthews

11 Nov 2012 – There was a surprise at yesterday's Welcome Reception for athletes at the 2012 Pacific-Asia Curling Championships.

Kate Caithness, President of the World Curling Federation, presented Liz Matthews, Member of the New Zealand Curling Association, with an IOC Women and Sport Achievement Diploma signed by Jacques Rogge.

The Diploma recognises Liz's outstanding contribution to promoting the development and participation of women and girls in sport.

The IOC Women and Sport Trophy is awarded annually to each of the five continents along with a Worldwide recipient. The New Zealand Curling Association was very proud to nominate Liz, who received the full support of the WCF.

Kiwi curlers supporting Men's health

Movember logo

16 Nov 2012 – Three of New Zealand's curlers at the Pacific-Asia Championships in Naseby will be billboards actively promoting men's health. Kenny Thomson, Phil Dowling and Scott Becker are sprouting moustaches in support of Movember.

Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in New Zealand and around the world. The aim is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

West Coast show off gentlemen's game

2 Oct 2012 – A group of kilt-wearing, whiskey-swirling, broomstick-holding West Coasters invaded the ice rink in Hagley Park on Saturday.

The West Coast Curling Club, which has no ice to practice on at its base in Greymouth, drove over from the coast to practice and demonstrate the "gentlemen's game" of curling at IceFest...

Poolburn win 2012 Bonspiel

2012 Bonspiel

9 Jul 2013 – Poolburn Curling Club took home the prized Snuff Box Trophy when they won the recent National Bonspiel.

2012 marks the third success for Poolburn in this iconic New Zealand sporting event, called only when there is sufficient natural ice on an outdoor rink.

Otago Central win 2012 Nicolson trophy

2012 Nicolson Trophy

30 Jun 2012 – A snow shower and biting temperatures were not enough to deter curlers in the Nicolson Trophy match at the Naseby outdoor rink.

The Nicolson Trophy is played between the two top teams from the Idaburn and Naseby Councils, as decided from their respective “One Day Matches” from the previous season.

NZ hosts first Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Camp

4 Jan 2012 - The first Pacific-Asia Junior Curling Camp, run jointly by the World Curling Federation and the New Zealand Curling Association, has just wrapped up at the Maniototo Curling International indoor rink in Naseby.

24 Junior curlers from Japan, Australia and New Zealand took part in the 6 day camp in early January – including junior athletes who will heading to Innsbruck, Austria for the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games this month.

Special thanks go to all those involved in making the camp such a success. As well as fine-tuning techniques on the ice, the junior campers have had a chance to experience the New Zealand way of life with barbecues and outdoor activities including a spot of sheep shearing.

18 Jul 2011 – The NZ Curling Association was delighted with a very successful and enjoyable 125th Jubilee celebration at the end of June, and confirms the results of recent National titles.

Coming up are further National championships and the 100% Pure NZ Winter Games. All NZ curlers are also invited to participate in the Trans-Tasman challenge in Melbourne at the end of September.
