To all Competitive Curlers
The NZCA Exec encourages athletes to self-nominate in order to be considered for selection for several International events through the 2020-2021 curling season.
Whilst the Coronavirus has generated much uncertainty around both our domestic season in 2020 and the coming International season, we feel that by running this process now we will be able to move quickly should restrictions lift and allow for NZ representative teams to travel overseas.
The deadline for self-nomination was Thursday 7th May.
Specifically, the teams to be selected for 2020-21 are:
- Open Fours, Women and Men – PACCs in Japan (November). OQE and World Championships if successful.
- Under 21s, Women and Men – Junior Bs in December in Finland and Junior As in China in February if successful.
- Mixed – date and venue to be confirmed. If our Nationals are able to be played in Auckland this year, then the medallists in this event will have first refusal at putting a team together.
- Trans Tasman event – format to be decided but likely a combination of Fours and Mixed Doubles. Naseby, late August
To support the Selectors to make decisions to enter New Zealand into any events, it is critical that everyone who is potentially interested completes the self-nomination process by the deadline. If you do not self-nominate then you will not be considered for selection.
The NZCA Exec has carried out a full review of selection policy and processes, with an updated policy document found here.
Nominations have closed for the 2020-21 international season, and will re-open next year.
