19 Aug 2025 – The 2025 New Zealand Senior Curling Championships concluded with Team Phil Dowling and Team Jo Olszewski claiming the Men's and Women's titles respectively. The event was held in conjunction with the NZ Mixed Doubles Championship at Naseby's Maniototo Adventure Park from August 14–17.
Women's Championship
The Women’s Senior title was decided in a best-of-three series between the two teams entered. In a spirited and friendly competition, Team Jo Olszewski – with Sandra Thomas, Merran Anderson, Liz Matthews, and Pauline Farra – secured the championship by winning the first two games. They then shared true curling hospitality and camaraderie with runners-up Jan Sangster, Gai Paardekooper, Cecilia Norman, Sue McNamara, and Sue Anderson.
Men's Championship
The Men's event featured four teams competing in a round robin. Team Phil Dowling – with Dean Fotti, Gordon Hay, and Tony Steele – went undefeated, earning a direct spot in the final. Teams Pete Becker and Matt Whineray faced off in a semi-final to determine the other finalist, with Team Becker (Richard Morgan, Nelson Ede, Dave Greer, and Murray Pitts) winning 9-4.
Team Dowling entered the best-of-three final with a 1-0 advantage thanks to their round robin win. However, Team Becker bounced back with a dominant 6-1 victory in Game 2. The deciding match was a nail-biter, with Team Dowling using their last-stone advantage to edge out a 6-5 win and secure the championship.
Both winning teams have earned the right to represent New Zealand at the 2026 World Senior Curling Championships in Geneva, Switzerland.
